Worcestershire Rapids opening batsman Richard Oliver admits it would be a "privilege" if he was able to face Andrew Flintoff in today's (Sunday's) NatWest T20 Blast top two clash with Lancashire Lightning at New Road (2.30pm start).
Flintoff is in contention to face the Rapids after being in the squad for Friday's game with Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston which was abandoned without a ball being bowled – the same fate as Worcestershire's home clash with Yorkshire Vikings.
Oliver said: "Freddie was one of my heroes and it would be a privilege to play against him – like it is a lot of these guys.
"I played my cricket in Australia in Geelong and Aaron Finch is a Geelong boy and I was really looking forward to playing against him on Friday.
"There are usually one or two in every side that you have a bit of a connection to or a bit of a history with.
"The way I used to look up to Flintoff, to be able to play against him would be a privilege at the end of the day.
"As professionals, we don't tend to get overawed by whoever we play, we just enjoy the privilege, and it's nice to be part of an occasion like that.
"He'll bring the crowds in weather permitting and it's a dream for everyone to see him playing still."
Oliver added: "I think it's fantastic that he has made a comeback and he must be in pretty good shape and hitting the ball well and bowling well in the nets.
"It can only be a good thing for cricket and only a good thing for Worcestershire if we can sell more tickets and get more people in.
"I'd be happy to see him – providing we win. I don't care who plays as long as we win."
