Worcestershire Rapids 2019 Vitality Blast overseas player, Martin Guptill, picked up an injury during New Zealand’s four wicket triumph in the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.

The opening batsman had to leave the field during the closing stages of the Sri Lankan innings.

Cricket New Zealand confirmed 32-year-old Guptill had “injured one of his right abdominal muscles.”

He did not take his accustomed place at the top of the order although Cricket New Zealand said he was “available to bat if needed.”

But Guptill was not required to don the pads following a reshuffle of the Blacks Caps batting line-up.

Rapids 2016-2017 Blast signing, Mitchell Santner (10 not out), saw the Black Caps over the finishing line and reach a 162 target with two balls to spare.

Guptill featured in eight of the Rapids North Group matches in the Blast and played a leading role in Worcestershire reaching the quarter-finals.

He departed Blackfinch New Road for the three T20Is in Sri Lanka nine days ago and scored 11 in the opening game of the series.
