Rapids T20 Blast Player Santner Joint Top Wicket-Taker As Black Caps Win Again

Worcestershire Rapids 2016 NatWest T20 Blast overseas player Mitchell Santner is currently the joint top wicket-taker in the ICC World T20 in India.

Santner, who will link up at New Road in mid May, picked up his ninth wicket of the tournament today as New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by 75 runs in Kolkata.

The spinner has overall figures of 15-0-86-9 from his four appearances.

Santner is level on nine wickets with Bangladesh's Mustafizur Rahman who boosted his tally with 5-22 against the Black Caps.

Fellow Kiwi and spinner Ish Sodhi has seven wickets – the same as Australian paceman James Faulkner – with West Indies medium pacer Dwayne Bravo on six.

Santer only bowled three overs today as Bangladesh were dismissed for 70 in 15.4 overs in tricky batting conditions as New Zealand made it four wins out of four.

In his third over he dismissed former Worcestershire players Shakib Al Hasan (2) who was caught at wide long on by Nathan McCullum.

Not for the first time in the tournament, Santner showed his mettle in bouncing back from an expensive over after conceding 14 in his second, including 10 off the bat.

Santner also took a fine catch running in from long on to dismiss Sabbir Rahman (12) off McCullum.

New Zealand had also found runs hard to come by but 42 from skipper Kane Williamson and 37 from ex Worcestershire T20 Blast player Colin Munro helped them to 145-8.

*Moeen Ali joined Santner in the semi-finals as England overcame holders Sri Lanka by 10 runs.

Moeen, man of the match in the previous game against Afghanstan, did not bat and conceded 32 runs in two overs but a late assault by Sri Lanka could not prevent England going through.
