Reaction Day One: Somerset V Worcestershire

Worcestershire all-rounder Ed Barnard, who claimed his first five wicket haul, gave his reaction to BBC Hereford-Worcester at the conclusion of day one of the Specsavers County Championship clash with Somerset at Taunton.

Barnard said: “The pitch has done quite a bit and quite a few wickets have fallen.

“We were slightly disappointed with how we ended the day after bowling them out for 200. We were really pleased with that.

“We thought we were a bit unlucky in the morning. We bowled really well, didn’t have a lot of luck, and the total could have been a lot less.

“They bowled well to be fair but hopefully we can get up towards their total.

“It was nice to get the first five-for. It’s a bit of a monkey off my back really. Some of the lads have been talking about it for a while.

“It’s been a few games now so it’s a nice one to tick off. If we don’t end up with a win, it doesn’t really mean anything. But it is nice to get.

“Your wickets came in a rush after lunch? I only came on at that time because Steve Magoffin went off with a bit of a sore hamstring.

“I settled into nice rhythm and found a good tempo at that end. I was quite lucky with the inside edge off Lewis Gregory and it was kind of going my way.

“When batting, it was tough, they bowled really well, and it was seaming about a bit.

“Hopefully myself and Josh Tongue can push on tomorrow and get up to that 200 mark, get a point, and then go again with the ball.

“If we can get the right conditions, and can bowl them out again second innings, there is no reason we can’t chase down a target.”
