Rhodes Added To Rapids Squad For Visit To Headingley

george rhodes has been added to the worcestershire rapids squad for tomorrow’s (wednesday’s) royal london one-day cup clash with yorkshire vikings at headingley.

the all-rounder joins the 12 players originally selected by head coach kevin sharp for saturday’s impressive 50 run success over derbyshire falcons at New Road.

rhodes played in the opening three specsavers county championship matches of the summer against hampshire, somerset and nottinghamshire.

he has been in fine form in white ball cricket for the seconds and scored two centuries in the last week in trophy matches against nottinghamshire at kidderminster and lancashire at barnt green.

the rapids total of 323-7 against the falcons was their second highest total against first class opposition in 50 over cricket at New Road – only surpassed by last season’s 342 all out versus the vikings.

skipper joe leach says the rapids will take confidence from their win over the falcons.

he said: “headingley is a tough place to go but we beat them last season and the year before. we will go up there full of confidence on the back of our performance against derbyshire.

“it was by no means a complete performance so we will be looking to improve and hopefully we can put them under some pressure and get a couple of wins this week.

“if we are brutally honest, we were below par for the first 10 overs with the ball and we probably didn’t quite execute at times with the ball.

“but that’s the beauty of this side. we want to get better and if we keep improving that’s going to stand us in good stead over the course of this tournament.”
