Rhodes: Break From Action Will Benefit Bowlers After Busy Spell

Steve Rhodes believes the 10 day break from action before the finale of the campaign will give the Worcestershire bowlers a chance to recharge their batteries after the recent schedule.

The County’s Director Of Cricket understands the viewpoint that it would be ideal to play again next week and maintain the momentum built up after a trio of impressive victories.

But Rhodes points to the advantages of the Worcestershire pace attack resting up after tasting plenty of action in recent weeks including a trio of Championship matches in quick succession.

Rhodes said: “One thing I would say is we have tended to play similar seam bowlers in the games just lately.

“They have put a lot of effort into trying to win the games and I think a little bit of a breather might be a really good thing to recharge their batteries.

“I know there is a thing called momentum.

“But a little bit of a breather, especially for the efforts put in by the bowlers, might not be a bad thing.”

The Worcestershire players will return to work in mid-week after the six wicket win over Leicestershire put them in prime position for promotion.

Rhodes said: “We’ve got some quiet times but it is also an important game for us (against Durham) so we’ve got at least two, maybe three practices leading up to it.”

As things stand, Worcestershire will need a maximum of 11 points against Durham to ensure promotion irrespective of what Northamptonshire achieve in their final two gaames.

Rhodes said: “There is a round of matches to be played next week which we are not involved in and, until we know the outcome of what goes on there, I won’t really be commenting on how we are going to play against Durham.”
