Rhodes: County Can Emulate Gloucs And Reap Rewards Of Sticking Together

Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes says Worcestershire can emulate the success of Royal London One-Day Cup winners Gloucestershire – in reaping the rewards of a group of players sticking together.

Rhodes has seen how their West County rivals have developed into a squad which came to fruition with this summer's RLC semi-final and final wins over Yorkshire and Surrey respectively.

Worcestershire are going down a similar sort of route with eight players having put pen to paper since the beginning of August on long term deals.

Rhodes said: "What is really pleasing is when signing up several of the lads talked a lot about how they do very much want to stick together as a group.

"They do recognise if they can stick together, we are going to be a strong side in years to come, hopefully in the not too distant future.

"That is the reason they have been signing up.

"I look at Gloucestershire at the moment and it is a really useful developing side and they got through to a final, had a fantastic win in the semi-final against Yorkshire and the same in the final against Surrey.

"That group of players has been developing together for a little period of time now so it's no surprise to me they have done well in that one-day competition.

"In the next year or two, in all formats this Worcestershire team can be challenging for trophies."
