Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has given his reaction to the the drawn LV = County Championship clash with Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl to BBC Hereford-Worcester's Ian Randall.
Question: Did the weather ultimately beat you in the end?
Rhodes: I think so. The loss of those three sessions or whatever it might be, is quite costly in the scheme of things. But I think we played some excellent cricket throughout this match.
I'm really pleased with the efforts of the bowlers and the fielders. I thought we put in a sterling effort on the final day.
The pitch didn't quite seem to go as up and down as we thought it might do and it flattened out but credit to Will Smith and Adam Wheater.
They put together a very good partnership and made life difficult for us.
But the good thing for us is we've had a good game with the bat and the ball and in the field and I'm very proud of the boys and the efforts they put in to try and win the game.
Question: The game plan you set out with, you could tick almost every box?
Rhodes: The wicket didn't actually do as much as we thought it would on day one so to bowl them out for 222 was a great effort and Joe Leach has had a fantastic game, picking up nine wickets in the match.
Daryl Mitchell's innings was very special. He's gone a few games without a score and that is unlike him and we always knew down the line someone was going to pay for it and thankfully for us, it was Hampshire, and he played ever so well.
It was a wonderful partnership as well with Ben Cox at the end to get us to the 400 and enable us to get on with the match and try and win the game and get in the field.
Question: Did a couple of half chances carry to Daryl Mitchell with the second new ball?
Rhodes: The first one did, the second one probably just bounced. He'll be a bit disappointed to miss the first one with the second new ball because that was our chance to try and get those last few wickets.
It might not have happened. We can't see into a crystal ball and say it would have happened but if we were going to have a chance of doing it, then it needed to be with that new ball.
But we can't fault him for his efforts in this match, he has been brilliant, and for him to get that score when he has been going through a bit of a low trot for runs is testament to his character and his ability to bounce back.
Question: Was Jack Shantry feeling under the weather, someone looked to take some tablets out to him?
Rhodes: No, I don't think so, he is fine. All the bowlers have pulled up pretty good. They've had quite a workload.
They've got a day off tomorrow and then the Twenty20 bandwagon roles on for Friday.
But we can't fault their efforts and all of them have pulled up pretty much okay and we are very pleased with that.
They are a terrific bunch of guys. They really try. You will notice right to the very end the way we chased the ball to the boundary. Those sort of things make me very, very proud.
