Rhodes Gives Update On Mitchell Hamstring Injury

Rhodes Gives Update On Mitchell Hamstring Injury

Steve Rhodes says Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell has a "slim" chance of being fit for Friday's LV = County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire at New Road.

Mitchell suffered a hamstring injury when batting in last night's Royal London One-Day Cup clash with Surrey at the Kia Oval and missed today's home meeting with Gloucestershire in the same competition.

He will assessed again in the morning by the county's medical team.

Director of Cricket Rhodes said:"How is Daryl Mitchell? He will be assessed again in the morning but his chances are slim for the Championship game but the medical team here work miracles.

"They are a great staff, they need to work a miracle but they certainly haven't ruled him out but it will be a tough call for him to make it for the game against Notts.

"Daryl is like a lot of our players. They don't want to sit on their backsides and not play cricket.

"They are desperate to prove to people that they can play well and for the benefit of the club and the team, they are desperate to get out there.

"All our injured players will work as hard as they can to get back playing."

Rhodes said Alex Gidman "could come into the reckoning" to face Notts but the squad has still to be finalised.
