Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes hailed a "magnificent" run chase by Worcestershire Rapids in the three wicket win over Warwickshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup at New Road.
The Rapids found themselves requiring a steep looking 241 in 34 overs via the Duckworth-Lewis Method after the Bears had scored 304-5 in 49 overs.
Worcestershire lost four early wickets but once again their strength in depth proved vital as Joe Clarke (56), Ben Cox (49) a promoted John Hastings (36) and Ross Whiteley (35 not out) saw them over the finishing line with 13 balls to spare.
Rhodes said:“It’s always a tremendous feeling to beat Warwickshire and especially to do it with a magnificent chase.
"It seemed that Duckworth-Lewis had done us no favours but we won relatively convincingly.
“It was hard work after losing the first four wickets but we always back the depth of our batting and it came good today.
“We felt that Warwickshire had not gone quickly enough on a good wicket and it was only Rikki Clarke who got them out of jail.”
Warwickshire captain Ian Bell was frustrated that his century eventually counted for little.
He said: “It felt good but in a losing cause,it doesn’t mean a great deal. Individual stuff is great, isn’t it, but winning is what we are about, so it was has been tough for that.
“This was a great toss (for Worcestershire) to win. There was a lot of seam movement in that first 10 or 15 overs.
"We could been six down for not many. I thought Rikki Clarke was fantastic and we did well to get 300.
“It’s disappointing not to get over the line again.”
