Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes believes Shaaiq Choudhry's brilliant catch against Kent was "as good a catch as you can get" and a reward for the hard work the Worcestershire spinner has put into the fielding aspect of his game.
Kent batsman Darren Stevens was left stunned when Choudhry clung onto a stinging shot off Gareth Andrew away to his right at mid-wicket during the second innings of Worcestersire's 125 run win in the LV County Championship.
It was the third exceptional catch of the match by a Worcestershire fielder after Moeen Ali's one-handed airborne effort at mid on to dismiss Ben Harmison in the first innings and wicket-keeper Ben Cox's standing up to Brendan Nash on the fourth day.
Rhodes said: "Chouds had just been doing some looseners and some shadow bowling – so maybe he had loosened himself off ready for a catch!
"He is quite amazing because he has had to work really hard at his fielding but he has taken some really good catches for us in the past.
"I remember one against Kevin Pietersen in a flood lit game at the Oval when he smashed it back at him at 100 miles an hour.
"That sticks in my memory but that one (on Wednesday) was as good a catch as you can get.
"That is the type of thing that goes for you when you do the right things.
"That is one of the things I am always telling the lads about mother cricket. It looks after you when you do the right things."
Worcestershire are lying second in the table with 32 points – one behind Hampshire – but do not play again until Sunday when Derbyshire visit New Road.
Rhodes said: "We would sooner have another game this last weekend but we can't change the fixtures. I do think it is time the lads had a bit of a rest.
"We've been on the go since we first went out to Abu Dhabi on our pre-season tour and they thoroughly deserve a little bit of time to put their feet up a bit, a little bit of active rest we call it these days.
"But certainly away from cricket for a few days and then we will be in-out, in-out to try and tick them over, get them right and build them up at the end of the week for what will be a really great occasion playing Derbyshire here now.
"I'm sure a lot of the supporters will really have enjoyed this win like we have and will be looking forward to seeing some more cricket."
