Rhodes Hails “unbelievable Innings” From Joe Who Hits Career Best Against Tykes

Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes hailed an "unbelievable" innings from 19-year-old Joe Clarke on the second day of the LV = County Championship clash with Yorkshire at Scarborough.

Clarke belied his years in making 76 not out in bowler friendly conditions against a high class attack – his career best score.

It enabled Worcestershire to reach 195-6 by the close in reply to Yorkshire's 430 all out after Charlie Morris, with three wickets in three overs this morning, had helped his side to achieve maximum bowling points.

Rhodes told BBC Hereford-Worcester's Dave Bradley: "It has been a tough day. I think it has been quite helpful bowling conditions. We did a really good job bowling them out and I think 80 more runs for five wickets was excellent.

"Charlie Morris bowled superbly for his three wickets today and the bowlers did a sterling job today.

"You could see though that the wicket had quickened up slightly, was a little bit more helpful today.

"Wickets have tumbled against a very good Yorkshire attack and they made life very difficult for us but Joe Clarke has been unbelievable.

"For a 19-year-old kid to play the way he did, in helpful bowling conditions against the attack Yorkshire possess, that was a fine knock.

"They are good bowlers and when you get overcast conditions and dampness around, it can be very difficult.

"But I thought he showed tremendous qualities and concentration and also skill level to be able to cope with them.

"I think he has played as well as any 19-year-old I can remember."
