Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes is hoping Worcestershire Rapids will be given permission by New Zealand Cricket to play Colin Munro in the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals – should the county qualify.
Munro will play in tonight's final T20 Blast North Group game with Derbyshire Falcons at New Road with a win guaranteeing the Rapids a place in the last eight.
The hard hitting batsman is then due to join up with New Zealand 'A' for their tour of England and Scotland.
But Rhodes is keepng his fingers crossed New Zealand will give the green light to allow Munro to play with the quarter-finals scheduled for August 1, 2 and 3.
Rhodes said: "There is nothing official. All I can say is that I have been in contact with New Zealand cricket.
"Our stance would be that we would be desperate for him to be released to play in the quarter-final should we get there.
"But we also respect he's a New Zealander cricketer and the authorities at New Zealand have control over what goes on.
"They are a good crowd at New Zealand cricket and we've got strong relationships with them. They do understand the situation.
"But it's also Colin Munro's international future and he wants to do the best by New Zealand 'A' as well.
"I'm very optmistic a compromise could be reached but until I've got official confirmation of that…the other aspect is we don't know when we would be playing and there is only one day which clashes, August 2.
"The other side of things is how many are in the New Zealand squad. If they've got injuries, then that causes problems and we won't know that until the last minute.
"If they have no injuries, then they may consider releasing him."
