RHODES IMPRESSES FOR ONSLOW IN OPENING MATCH OF NEW YEAR

George Rhodes made a telling contribution in his first match of the New Year for Onslow CC who defeated Naenae Old Boys by 124 runs in the Ewen Chatfield Trophy in New Zealand.

The Worcestershire all-rounder top-scored with 76 and then picked up two wickets in a resounding success for his side.

Rhodes came to the wicket at 0-1 in the first over and featured in a second wicket stand of 133 with Nicholas Pile (59).

He was eventually third out at 141 in the 32nd over after striking one six and four boundaries at a strike rate of 73.79.

Ben Shields (68) and Micah Conroy (45) added an unbroken 113 in 17 overs as Onslow totalled 258-4 in their 50 overs.

Rhodes then played his part with the ball as Naenae were bowled out for 134 in 38.2 overs.

He was the seventh bowler used and ended with figures of 6.2-1-25-2.

Ollie Westbury was on the losing side for Grafton who went down by two wickets to Parnell CC in the Jeff Crowe One-Day Championship.

Westbury went in first and was dismissed for five off 14 balls. Grafton were bowled out for 131 in 38.1 overs and Parnell also found runs hard to come by before securing a narrow win in the 35th over.
