Rhodes Looking To Increase Depth Of County Pace Attack For 2016 Campaign

Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes is aiming to increase the depth of Worcestershire's pace attack during the winter to help ease the workload of Jack Shantry, Joe Leach and Charlie Morris during the 2016 campaign.

The early season injury setback to Gareth Andrew meant Shantry, Leach and Morris bowled the majority of the overs in the LV = County Championship – with Shantry and Leach also key figures in white ball cricket.

Rhodes is looking to bring in an additional bowler to bolster the squad although he also has high hopes of Ed Barnard supplementing the trio after he made his senior breakthrough this summer and showed plenty of promise.

Rhodes said: "When you look at our seam attack and the stable of pace bowlers, another bowler wouldn't go amiss.

"That would be nice if we could pick up a domestic signing as a seam bowler.

"If you look at our squad, because Gareth Andrew got injured early, the likes of Joe Leach, Charlie Morris and Jack Shantry in particular, have shouldered a massive burden with the overs they've bowled in Championship cricket and the one-dayers.

"They need a bit of help and an extra bowler to go with Ed Barnard, who is a wonderful young talent and is going to be a tremendous cricketer.

"We need a little bit of help so we are trying our best to find someone who is capable of helping the cause and sharing the responsibility a bit more, keeping the lads a little bit fresher."
