Rhodes Prepares To Fly Out To Uae As Part Of Lions Coaching Set-Up

Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes will fly out to the United Arab Emirates today to continue his winter coaching stint with the England Lions.

Rhodes spent four days as part of the Lions coaching set-up at a training camp at the National Performance Centre in Loughborough two weeks ago.

Now the former England keeper will link up with the players and coaches to prepare for five T20 matches against Pakistan 'A.'

The players have spent the past two weeks in England Performance Programme camps – in Dubai for batting and spin and South Africa for pace bowling.

Rhodes will be reunited with Worcestershire duo Joe Clarke and Ross Whiteley who have been put through their paces in Dubai.

The trio will fly home on December 17 – the day after the conclusion of the T20 series – and then a new Lions squad will be selected for five 50 over matches against Pakistan 'A' in the UAE in the New Year.

Rhodes will be flying back out to rejoin the newly assembled squad in early January for the remainder of that month.

He will be very familiar with the surroundings by the time he heads back out there with Worcestershire for their pre-season tour in early March.

Assistant coach-bowling coach Matt Mason will oversee winter training at New Road during Rhodes' absence alongside batting coach-second eleven coach Kevin Sharp and academy coach Elliot Wilson.
