Rhodes Shines With Bat And Ball As Barnards Green Triumph

George Rhodes turned in an excellent all-round performance as Barnards Green defeated visiting Wellington by 113 runs in a Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League Division One fixture.

The Worcestershire CCC player fell just one short of his century and his 138 balls knock with 13 fours lifted Barnards Green to 251-9.

Then Rhodes returned 4-34 in 15 overs as Wellington, for whom Jack Shantry sent down 11 overs for 38 runs and scored 12, were bowled out for 138.

Brett D'Oliveira scored 65 as Ombersley defeated visiting Walsall by 157 runs in a Premier Division encounter.

The Worcestershire CCC player hit two sixes and five fours in his 72 ball knock. Ben Cox made a run a ball 11 as Ombersley totalled 292-6 in their 50 overs and bowled out their opponents for 135.

D'Oliveira's New Road opening partner Daryl Mitchell top-scored with 21 for Brockhampton who lost by eight wickets when they visited Dorridge in another top flight match.

Brockhampton were dismissed for 107 and Dorridge knocked off the runs in 28.3 overs.

Alex Hepburn scored 47 and picked up two wickets as Berkswell won by 127 runs away to West Bromwich Dartmouth in the Premier Division.

Hepburn helped Berkswell to 229-9 and his two wickets included West Brom's top scorer Shozair Ali – 54 out of 102 all out.

In the same division, Ben Twohig produced a fine performance with bat and ball as Wolverhampton defeated visiting Shrewsbury by 27 runs.

Twohig scored 41 of Wolverhampton's 217-6 and then returned figures of 10.4-2-31-4 as Shrewsbury, for whom Academy player Dillon Pennington made 53 and Seconds opener Ollie Westbury 25, were bowled out for 190.

In Division One, Charlie Morris returned figures of 17-3-30-1 and scored 41 for Bridgnorth after coming in at 4-4 away to Tamworth.

But his side went down by 25 runs, bowled out for 171 – despite 90 from David Exall with whom Morris shared a fifth wicket stand of 84 – in reply to 196 all out.
