Rhodes: Winning Feeling Helps Players To Cope With Busy Schedule

Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes believes the taste of victory has helped the players cope with the recent demanding schedule.

The county ended a hectic spell of 22 days possible cricket out of 27 with last night's NatWest T20 Blast clash against Birmingham Bears at New Road incorporating four LV = County Championship and six T20 Blast matches.

It has allowed little time for the squad to recover or practice their skills in between matches, some of which have taken place in strength-sapping heat.

But the squad have been rewarded for their determination to keep performing to their best with a string of T20Blast wins before last night and a Championship triumph over Hampshire which has boosted their chances of staying in the top flight.

Rhodes said: "Thank goodness we've managed to win recently. When you win, you don't get as tired. When you lose, you definitely get tired.

"In this spell of heavy cricket, it is nice to come away with some victories otherwise it would be a long time.

"After last night, the players will have Saturday and Sunday off.

"It is what they definitely deserve – and need – and time to rest up the body, get away from cricket for a small period of time and then we go again."

Worcestershire have two T20 Blast matches next week away to Yorkshire Vikings (Tuesday) and Derbyshire Falcons (Friday) but a week off from Championship action.
