Rhodes Warms Up For Trophy Final With Unbeaten 75

George Rhodes’s team, Onslow CC, will contest the final of the Ewen Chatfield Trophy this weekend.

The Worcestershire all-rounder has been a major factor in Onslow sealing a final spot against Johnsonville CC in the 50 over competition.

The two teams both finished on 45 points in the group stages, winning nine of their 11 matches.

But Johnsonville came out on top via net run rate – +1.63 to +1.43 – and will have home advantage on Saturday at Alex Moore Park.

Rhodes scored 350 runs in nine innings – the sixth highest tally in the competition – at an average of 43.75 and a strike rate of 73.

He also chipped in with seven wickets at at average of 27.57 from 48 overs.

Onslow will be looking to gain revenge for losing to Johnsonville in the group match – a game in which Rhodes top-scored for his team with 81.

He has been playing for Onslow throughout the winter and is due to report back to New Road on March 1.

*Rhodes warmed up for the final by shining with the bat for Onslow CC in a CricHQ T20 competition encounter against Naenae Old Boys yesterday.

He continued his fine form in his side’s opening Pool Five match in the short format of the game.

Rhodes went to the wicket at 64-2 and finished unbeaten 75 from just 50 deliveries.

He hit three sixes and five fours and enabled Onslow to total 173-5 from their 20 overs after electing to bat.

Rhodes then enjoyed some success with the ball after being asked to bowl the final over of Naenae’s reply.

He picked up two wickets for two runs and was also involved in a run out as Naenae closed on 153-9 and went down by 20 runs.
