Russell Leaving County After Not Offered New Contract

Russell Leaving County After Not Offered New Contract

Worcestershire CCC are parting company with paceman Chris Russell after he was not offered a new contract.

The 27-year-old is leaving New Road four years after making his senior bow against South Africa in a 2012 tour match in which he picked up six wickets.

Russell made his County Championship debut later that summer against Warwickshire at Edgbaston and returned what proved to be his best figures for Worcestershire of 4-43.

He was their leading wicket in the 2014 NatWest T20 Blast with 16 in eight games.

But Isle Of Wight born Russell has made only occasional appearances in white ball cricket during the past two seasons.

He has made a total of 18 first class, 10 List A and 12 T20 appearances.

Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "I really do wish Chris all the best – like all of our players who are released.

"He has been with us a lot longer than people think and it is always a tough time for people to be leaving the club.

"I think he will look elsewhere and try and find another county and, wherever that might be, I wish him well with his career away from Worcestershire."
