Saeed Ajmal says it is too early for Worcestershire team-mate Moeen Ali to unleash his doosra delivery in Test cricket but believes he is capable of filling the off-spinner role for England.
Ajmal has seen a significant improvement in Moeen's bowling capabilities since he first worked with him at New Road during the 20111 season.
Now Moeen will make his Test bow in today's first Test of the summer against Sri Lanka at Lord's.
Ajmal said: "I work a lot with Moeen. I've been here five weeks so far and everyday he has worked with me. I am very happy he has been chosen to play Test cricket.
"In 2011 he was just bowling as normal and I gave him tips to start bowling off-spin. Now he is wanting to learn the doosra as well so I give all my secrets to him.
"He has learnt to bowl the doosra very well but it takes time and he needs a few weeks more before he can bowl it in first class and then international cricket.
"Maybe it will take six or seven weeks to bowl in Test match cricket as well.
"It is going well with the off-spin bowling. He is not like a regular bowler for a Test match but as a part-time bowler he is good.
"I think if he is working hard with the ball as well, he can do everything."
Ajmal can recall the pride will feel today when making his own Test debut.
He said: "Your debut Test is a dream come true. When you are called 'a Test player' then it is very good.
"I remember when it happened to me. It makes you feel proud. When I started in Test cricket, I was nervous as well.
"I started in 2008 and still I am nervous when I play Test cricket. He will be proud when he walks down the steps at Lord's."
Ajmal added: "Lord's is a good ground, quite good for batting as well. I'm not sure if it is a good ground for spinners but it is good for batting.
"But if Moeen doesn't take wickets he can bowl 15-20 overs a day. He can give you help, stop the runs and allow some rest for fast bowlers."
