Second Placed County Gearing Up For Trent Bridge Battle

Worcestershire have moved back into the second promotion spot in the Specsavers County Championship – and are gearing up for a battle royal with leaders Nottinghamshire.

The two sides will meet at Trent Bridge from next Tuesday in what is Worcestershire’s final away encounter of 2017.

Skipper Joe Leach’s side are 19 points clear of third placed Sussex who have a match in hand.

The County’s emphatic 189 run success over Gloucestershire at New Road this week was their sixth of the campaign.

They have already equalled the number of victories chalked up in the whole of last season when, in finishing third, they accrued the same total of wins as Division Two champions Essex.

Since failing to win any of their opening five matches last season, Worcestershire have triumphed in 12 of their next 22 Championship matches spanning 2016 and 2017.

Worcestershire’s total of 36 batting points out of a possible 55 and 30 bowling points out of a possible 33 is second only to Notts.
