Seconds End T20 Campaign On High Note With Fifth Win In Six Matches

Seconds End T20 Campaign On High Note With Fifth Win In Six Matches

Worcestershire Seconds ended their T20 programme on a winning note when they defeated Yorkshire Seconds by 15 runs at Barnt Green – their fifth win in the last six matches in the short format of the game.

The Seconds had completed the T20 double over Leicestershire and Warwickshire before losing the first of the two clashes with the Tykes by 33 runs.

But they bounced back in style in the second match despite the presence in the Yorkshire line-up of Australian big hitter Glenn Maxwell.

Worcestershire elected to bat on winning the toss in Game Two and Joe Clarke top-scored with 56 off 34 balls with three sixes and four fours.

He shared in a fourth wicket stand of 87 in nine overs with Alexei Kervezee (34) as the home side totalled 184-9 after some useful late runs from Will Fraine (24).

Maxwell had opened the bowling and also went in first but after making 14 he became one of Chris Russell's three victims.

Yorkshire reached 140-4 at one stage but then lost four wickets for nine runs and closed on 169-9.

Russell finished with 3-36 and Darrell Williams 2-18 while Kervezee and skipper Shaaiq Choudhry bowled tight four over spells.

In Game One, Worcestershire looked to be on course to reach a 162 target despite losing three wickets for nine runs.

Colin Munro warmed up for Friday's NatWest T20 Blast clash with Northamptonshire Steelbacks by smashing 56 off 26 balls with three sixes and eight fours.

The second team fixture at Barnt Green was in sharp contrast to the T20 international he had played in for New Zealand against England at a full house Old Trafford 36 hours earlier.

He was fourth out at 74 after sharing in a stand of 65 with Kervezee (45) and then Worcestershire quickly subsided to 128 all out in only 15 overs.

Will Rhodes top-scored for Yorkshire with 43 out of their 161-5.
