Seconds Hope To Play One Day Game After More Weather Misery At Northampton

Seconds Hope To Play One Day Game After More Weather Misery At Northampton

Worcestershire Seconds and a combined Kent-Northants X1 will attempt to play a fresh one-day match tomorrow after just 19 overs was possible at Northampton today.

The first day was completely washed out and Worcestershire only had time to progress to 60-3 before the play was abandoned on day two on what was originally scheduled as a three day fixture.

Play started after lunch at 1:10 pm to give the pitch time to recover from the overnight rain.

Worcestershire captain George Rhodes won the toss and elected to bat. Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Rhodes made a steady start taking 23 off the first seven overs until they were pegged back with four maidens in a row during which Rhodes was caught at mid-wicket for five.

Kohler-Cadmore and Alexei Kervezee brought up the 50 from 90 balls but then the former on 29 popped the ball up to deep point in the gloom and at the end of the same over – the 16th – the players went off for bad light.

Tea was taken during the two and a quarter hours the players were off the field but on resumption only a further three overs could be bowled before the light dimmed again.

In those three overs, Worcs added another 10 runs but lost the wicket of Kervezee, caught at first slip for 20.

The match was abandoned on 60-3 and it was agreed a one-day match will be started from scratch, weather permitting tomorrow.
