Seconds Launch T20 Programme With Double Header Versus Leics

Seconds Launch T20 Programme With Double Header Versus Leics

Worcestershire Seconds will launch their T20 and Championship programme with four days of cricket against Leicestershire Seconds.

Coach Kevin Sharp's side will take part in two T20 matches on Tuesday at Kibworth and then a three-day Championship match from Wednesday to Friday at Oakham School.

Worcestershire enjoyed a successful T20 campaign in 2015, finishing third in their group and just missing out on a spot in the semi-finals.

Sharp said: "We did pretty well in the T20 last year and we are looking forward to the two games in a day.

"We just failed to qualify for finals day hopefully we can repeat some of those performances.

"We've got a good philosophy on T20 cricket throughout the club. The first team has done well these last few years and got to two successive quarter-finals.

"We've got a strong squad of players that have performed well in this format. Let's just hope we can repeat it."

Worcestershire's first scheduled competitive match of the campaign, a Second Eleven Trophy match with Durham at Richmondshire CCC, was abandoned without a ball being bowled – as was a 40 over friendly between the two sides.

But they were able to get in some valuable practice on the final two days of a three-day match with Somerset at Taunton Vale and a three-day clash with Sussex at Kidderminster.

Sharp said: "It has been a bit hit and miss with the weather. It has been so cold and there has been a lot of rain and this week we had snow and hail.

"Generally we've played some good solid cricket. We had a poor batting performance at Kidderminster when the game looked as if it was going to peter out into a tame draw.

"Apart from that we've been fine and sometimes those things happen when you've got young players who haven't played much second eleven cricket."
