Seconds Make Rare New Road Appearance In Trophy Clash

Seconds Make Rare New Road Appearance In Trophy Clash

Worcestershire Seconds will make a rare appearance at New Road tomorrow – and they will be hoping to take another step towards qualifying for the semi-finals of the Second Eleven Trophy.

Coach Kevin Sharp's side will be bidding for a fifth successive win in the competition when they take on Durham at the County's headquarters.

They have so far disposed of Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and MCC Young Cricketers in the competition.

Sharp has been delighted with the performances of the Seconds in the 50 over tournament.

He said: "We don't play an awful lot at New Road so the opportunity for the lads to play at HQ is very important for their development.

"I've seen the table and Lancashire and Yorkshire are just behind us so the important thing is just to keep getting points.

"If we can get maximum, then we will definitely qualify.

"We've got to play Lancashire, who are up there, in the final game (at Neston) and that might determine where the teams finish."

Sharp believes the Seconds are reaping the benefits of becoming more experienced.

He said: "The lads are getting a bit older, a bit wiser, a bit smarter, they are maturing as cricketers and it is great to see.

"They are playing some great cricket.

"We've had four hundreds in the one-day games and the partnerships have been excellent and the lads have pretty much nailed the game plans."
