SECONDS TAKE ON NORTHANTS IN FINALE TO TROPHY GROUP CAMPAIGN

SECONDS TAKE ON NORTHANTS IN FINALE TO TROPHY GROUP CAMPAIGN

Worcestershire complete their Second Eleven Trophy group programme tomorrow (Monday) when they take on Northamptonshire at Finedon CC.

The County are currently in third spot in the North Group and still in the hunt to qualify for the semi-finals of the 50 over competition for the second year running.

They will have to win their own fixture against their sixth placed opponents and hope other results go their way, most notably second placed Durham’s fixture with Warwickshire at Jesmond.

If Worcestershire win and Durham lose then both teams will be on eight points alongside current leaders Yorkshire who have completed their fixtures – and all with four wins from six matches.

The regulations stipulate that firstly the teams with the most wins go through if teams are level on points and then secondly net via the best net run rate.

Since Worcestershire were last in Trophy action two and a half weeks ago, rivals Durham and Yorkshire have defeated Lancashire and Derbyshire by 128 runs and 52 runs respectively.

Tom Fell and George Rhodes, who played in the County’s Specsavers County Championship match against Middlesex, are included in the Seconds line-up.

Paceman Dillon Pennington will continue his comeback from an ankle injury and is set to bowl 10 overs in each innings.

Pat Brown will captain the side – a role he was also employed in for the two T20 games versus Warwickshire at Stourport.
