Seconds Toil Away For Wickets Against Local Rivals At Barnt Green

Seconds Toil Away For Wickets Against Local Rivals At Barnt Green

Worcestershire Seconds had to toil hard for any success with the ball when play got underway a day late in the four-day friendly with Warwickshire Seconds at Barnt Green.

A strong Bears batting line-up totalled 470-4 declared after being put into bat before Worcestershire openers Ollie Westbury and Tom Fell reached 12-0 by the close.

Worcestershire fielded the same players who had overcome Derbyshire by nine wickets in their final Second Eleven Championship match of 2018 at Belper CC.

Josh Tongue and Charlie Morris were again included as the pace duo continued their comeback from recent injury setbacks.

The opening day had been abandoned without a ball being bowled because the bowlers run-ups were wet.

Warwickshire openers Will Rhodes and Dominic Sibley put on 176 before both departed in the space of four runs.

Dillon Pennington made the first breakthrough when he bowled Rhodes in the 39th over for 79 (100 balls, one six and 12 fours).

Then Morris trapped Sibley lbw for 95 three overs later (142 balls, 20 fours).

Liam Banks and former England batsman Jonathan Trott then joined forces for a partnership of 142 in 30 overs.

Trott became the first victim of Tongue when he was caught by Morris at third man for 83 (93 balls, four sixes and 10 fours).

Lamb was joined by Matthew Lamb and they added 148 in 16 overs before the latter on 36 was bowled by Tongue immediately before the declaration.

It left Lamb undefeated on 155 from 157 deliveries with 25 boundaries.
