SECONDS TROPHY SEMI-FINAL HOPES DASHED BY THE WEATHER

Worcestershire’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Second Eleven Trophy competition for the second year running were dashed by the weather today.

The County needed to win against Northamptonshire Seconds at Finedon CC and hope other results went in their favour if they were to secure a top two spot in the North Group.

But heavy rain led to an early abandonment of the game and means the Seconds cannot overhaul either leaders Yorkshire or Durham.

They ended the group with seven points from six games via three wins, two defeats and the one wash-out today.

Worcestershire will hope for better luck with the weather tomorrow when they take on the same opponents at the County Ground, Northampton in a three-day Championship match.

Dillon Pennington is scheduled to bowl 10 overs in each innings as part of his back to bowling programme after a foot injury.

Jack Haynes returns to the side for the three-day fixture and Alex Milton will take over the captaincy of the red ball side.
