Shantry Says It Would Be “massive” For Rapids To Seal T20 Blast Finals Day Spot

Jack Shantry admits it would be "massive" if Worcestershire Rapids secure a NatWest T20 Blast finals day spot for the first time.

Shantry admits he is counting down to Friday's quarter-final against Hampshire at a sold-out New Road – the County's first home tie in the last eight.

It is his third quarter-final after the away clashes with Yorkshire in 2012 and Surrey 12 months ago.

He said: "We can't wait for Friday. It's the first home quarter-final in the club's history. Hopefully having home advantage this time can prove the difference and get us to finals day for the first time.

"That would be massive. I've been at the club seven years now and never got to Finals Day.

"I haven't won a trophy in my career and I think a lot of the players are the same, although Daryl Mitchell won the one-day competition about nine years ago.

"We're all very, very hungry to succeed and can't wait for the quarter-final."

Shantry had plenty of respect for Hampshire who are bidding to reach a sixth successive finals day. He told ecb.co.uk: "Over the last decade they've probably been one of the best Twenty20 teams. They know what they're doing.

"They've got the likes of (Michael) Carberry, who's a fantastic player, and (James) Vince, and then with the ball people like Danny Briggs, who's been a consistent performer over the last four or five years.

"They're going to come to New Road confident as well and might even be bookies' favourites.

"They're probably going to come with three or four spinners so it could be an interesting game with the slow bowlers."
