Shantry Shows His Value To Side With Bat As Well As The Ball

Jack Shantry has had a fine season with ball and bat for Worcestershire as reflected in the latest averages for the LV = County Championship after 11 of the 16 matches.

Shantry has again shown his prowess with the new ball and is joint second leading wicket-taker alongside Charlie Morris with 34 victims.

But he has also made several useful contributions with the bat, batting at number nine and it is another example of his hard work paying dividends.

Shantry has featured in several crucial partnerships in helping the Worcestershire lower order accumulate vital runs.

He has scored 237 runs at an average of more than 26 and has proved hard for opposing bowlers to dislodge but also been capable of some big hitting when the occasion demands.

Worcestershire assistant coach-bowling coach Matt Mason said: "The lower order have done well. It is an important thing.

"We've talked about it a lot, that we like our last five to contribute at least 150 because it makes a difference in getting those big scores.

"They have got us out of trouble a couple of times as well. Credit to those guys. Our bowlers work hard on their batting and it is paying dividends."
