Shantry: Up And Coming Players Benefit From Work With “tireless” Rhodes

Paceman Jack Shantry has revealed the "absolutely tireless" work of Worcestershire Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes "that many people don't see."

Shantry says the County's Academy prospects and younger players benefit from the many hours Rhodes puts in at Malvern College – Worcestershire's regular base during the winter months.

Rhodes will be back at the helm this coming week after returning from his near four week stint as part of the England coaching team for the Test series in Bangladesh.

Shantry said: "We place a lot of emphasis on our younger players and The Academy and Bumpy (Rhodes) is absolutely tireless.

"From November through to March, he will be in at 7.30 in the mornings working with 15-16-year old wicket-keepers.

"He is one of the best wicket-keeper coaches in the country and for those young players to work with him, the Director Of Cricket, is tremendous for them.

"I'm not sure there are that many other Directors of Cricket around the country that would do that.

"That is the sort of behind the scenes thing that people don't see – but the players appreciate it."
