Kevin Sharp felt Worcestershire bowled without much luck on a truncated opening day in the Specsavers County Championship clash with Derbyshire at the 3aaa County Ground.
Skipper Joe Leach, Jack Shantry and Josh Tongue all picked up one wicket as the home side closed on 111-3 from 40 overs after an uncontested toss meant Worcestershire opted to bowl first.
Luis Reece hit an unbeaten half century when play got underway at 4pm on what was the same pitch as used for the Royal London One-Day Cup match between the sides on Tuesday evening.
Batting Coach Sharp is targeting early wickets tomorrow morning.
He told BBC Hereford-Worcester's Dave Bradley: "It finished probably just about even. I think our lads have been a bit unfortunate there because I think they bowled quite well.
"They played and missed a lot and perhaps on another day you would get the nicks a bit more and perhaps we would have got a few more wickets.
"But they bowled solidly, have been lively in the field and I would expect to get a bit more fortune tomorrow morning and hopefully bowl them out by lunch-time."
In terms of opting to bowl first, Sharp said: "It is a used pitch, the same as used for the One-Day Cup game, so there could be an argument to say you might want to bat first on a used pitch.
"But there has been so much dampness around here the last two days that the pitch has been pretty much covered up because of the amount of rain.
"You always think then that there is a bit of dampness around, there was a bit of live grass on the pitch this morning just before they cut it, and the lads are confident enough to think they can bowl them out and hopefully bat well under better conditions tomorrow."
Tongue picked up the wicket of Wayne Madsen and Sharp said: "He has got a lot of talent. We are all excited about Josh.
"He has a very good attitude, he has got a very good repetitive action, he is tall, he hits the seam and he hits the splice when he is bowling.
"Those are great attributes to have and we are all excited about what the future holds for him."
