Second Eleven coach Kevin Sharp praised the resilience and perseverance of the Worcestershire players in forcing victory on the final day of the Second Eleven Championship match with Northamptonshire at Kidderminster.
Sharp was delighted to see the County triumph with five balls to spare after bowling out Northants for 314 in their second innings on a good pitch and then chase down a target of 101 in 14 overs.
It was their second successive victory in the competition after defeating Leicestershire Seconds at Oakham School in the opening SEC fixture.
Sharp, who is also the County's batting coach, said: "It is a good pitch at Kidderminster. It is not easy to bowl a team out and the lads just kept going and going on the final day.
"They did really well, showed some real good focus and intent on winning the game. It was a good effort.
"Northants showed some resilience and fought very hard to stay in the game so the lads had to really work for it and they got their rewards in the end."
Ben Twohig hit a six off the first ball of the final over to seal the Seconds win and secure 24 points.
Sharp said: "If you want to chase a target like that anywhere, it is at Kidderminster because it is such a good pitch to bat on.
"It is hard because they can spread the field if they wanted to but it was great.
"The lads have done well. That's two wins out of two. I'm really chuffed with that."
The Seconds batsmen are mirroring in many way the performance of the senior side in currently wracking up big totals.
Ollie Westbury and Alex Hepburn scored fine hundreds and Tom Fell looked in good touch with 72 off 73 balls.
Sharp said: "We are in a good place with it. We have got a lot of lads making runs. Westbury hasn't played a lot yet but he has made a couple of hundreds, one of them last season.
"Felly has looked in terrfic form. Alex Hepburn, who hasn't made a lot of runs yet this season, played really, really well.
"It is good. In both teams we are getting some big scores."
Sharp was also impressed with triallist paceman Alex Willerton who has been playing for Lincolnshire this season.
He ended up with seven wickets in the game.
Sharp said: "He has done well, he is a big tall lad from Lincolnshire. He has come in and is quite exciting really.
"He got some height and pace and bounce and he bowled really well."
