Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell admits it would be "a dream come true" to play for England.
The county's Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes believes Mitchell deserves to at least be considered by the England selectors after scoring more than 1200 first class runs this summer.
But Mitchell, who is also Worcestershire's leading scorer in the NatWest T20 Blast, accepts that all he can do is keep scoing as many runs as he can.
He said: "There is nothing I can do. It is all about getting as many runs as I can and hopefully someone takes notice of it.
"It would be a dream come true to play for your country. It is what any county cricketer should be trying to do.
"All you can do is control what you can control.
"I'll just keep going out there to try and get as many runs as I can every time I am at the wicket.
"Hopefully someone takes notice and gives me a shot."
Mitchell has scored five centuries – and two 90s – in the LV = County Championship this season and was the second player to reach 1,000 runs in the competition after Hampshire's James Vince.
