Skipper Gives Backing To Ajmal And Says He Will “go From Strength To Strength”

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell has given his backing to spinner Saeed Ajmal and says he will go "from strength to strength."

Ajmal has taken one wicket in his two LV = County Championship appearances since returning to New Road for his third spell with a remodelled action.

But in white ball cricket he has been a key figure in the county's charge into the top two of the NatWest T20 Blast.

Mitchell said: "The pitches haven't helped Saeed so far for sure but he's also still not played a lot of red ball cricket since remodelling his action.

"He bowled some fantastic deliveries down at Middlesex and his doosra beat the outside edge.

"Saeed will go from strength to strength and is a good bloke to have around.

"In white ball cricket he's been getting better and better with every game and has created pressure by making it difficult for the opposition to score."

Mitchell has also offered his support for his opening partner Richard Oliver who it is fair to say has not had the rub of the green with a couple of recent decisions.

He said: "The figures would suggest my opening partnership with Rich has struggled in recent times.

"But he has had a couple of decisions that haven't gone his way and not a lot of luck.

"He's a good cricketer and a clean striker of the ball. As his opening partner especially, I want to see him turn his form around."
