Skipper Hits Half Century As Academy Notch First Win Of Season

A half century from skipper Nick Hammond and three wickets apiece for Dan Lloyd and Xavier Clarke helped Worcestershire Academy defeat Worcestershire Under-17s by 89 runs in a 50 over clash at Bromsgrove CCC.

It was the Academy's first victory of the summer after the wash-out of a trio of games at Shrewsbury and a loss away to Malvern College 1st X1.

The Academy were put into bat and totalled 232-8.

Hammond top-scored with 56 with Zain Hassan weighed in with 44 before Ryan Wheldon (18 not out) hit some useful late order runs.

Worcestershire Under-17s reached 60-1 in reply and, after losing three quick wickets, featured a partnership of 64 between Billy Cox and Adam Finch (26).

Cox was eventually out for 50 and the last five wickets fell for 12 runs as the Under-17s were bowled out for 143 in 39.4 overs.

Lloyd finished with the excellent figures of 3-26 from 10 overs and Clarke 3-16 from 4.4 overs.
