Skipper Mitchell Is Worcestershire’s Marathon Man!

Skipper Mitchell Is Worcestershire’s Marathon Man!

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell's magnificent efforts with the bat this season mean he has faced more deliveries and spent more time at the wicket than any other player in Division Two of the LV = County Championship.

Mitchell can quite rightly be called cricket's marathon man after batting for 3,518 minutes which works out at 58.63 hours.

That is the equivalent of being at the crease for almost 10 days full play!

In addition the 30-year-old has faced 2,684 balls in Championship cricket during 2014 which adds up to 447.33 overs – almost five days complete action.

It is testament to the amazing powers of concentration shown by Mitchell at the wicket alongside having to skipper a young side in their bid for promotion.

Surrey's Zafar Ansari, who again batted well in last week's match at New Road, is next in the list, having faced 2,407 balls and spent 3,018 minutes in the middle.

Mitchell was still Division Two's leading run-getter with 1311 at an average of 62.43 going into the latest round of matches starting yesterday (Monday) although Worcestershire are not back in action until next week.

Team-mate Moeen Ali is just ahead of him in the latest batting averages which incorporate players who have participated in five or more matches this summer.

On the bowling front Worcestershire duo Gareth Andrew and Saeed Ajmal are first and second in the averages for players who have bowled 100 overs or more.
