Worcestershire Seconds 2017 campaign has ended on a soggy note with the three-day match against Leicestershire Seconds at Desborough CC abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Muddy patches and a wet outfield had led to the opening two days being called off and rain overnight left the umpires with little choice but to abandon the game at 9am this morning.
It is a frustrating end to what has generally been an excellent season for coach Kevin Sharp’s side with the highlight being a third placed finish in the Championship.
There were also improvements in their final positions in white ball cricket and the County narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot in the 50 over competition after winning their first four group matches.
The wash-out at Desborough is the second three-day game to suffer that fate for the Seconds this summer.
The Championship match with Durham at Burnopfield also saw no action when a decent points haul from that game might have made the battle for the title with Lancashire and Warwickshire even tighter.
