Worcestershire needed only 40 minutes to wrap up an emphatic innings and 186 runs victory over Yorkshire on the final day of the Specsavers County Championship match with Yorkshire at Scarborough.
Moeen Ali and Dillon Pennington shared the final four wickets as Yorkshire, who resumed on 140-6, were dismissed for 170 in 62.1 overs.
England all-rounder Moeen finished with match figures of 8-89 – to go alongside his double century – and Pennington an overall return of 6-80.
The County secured a maximum haul of 24 points in wrapping up their first Championship win over Yorkshire since the six wicket success at Kidderminster in 2007.
It was a massive boost to their hopes of remaining in the top flight for the 2019 campaign as they transformed the outstanding form shown in the Vitality Blast into the longer format of the game.
Moeen became the second Worcestershire player after Ted Arnold – against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in 1909 – to take five or more wickets in an innings and score a double century in the same game.
The game moved along quickly this morning and Moeen made the first breakthrough when he bowled David Willey for five with a ball that turned sharply.
In his next over the 31-year-old had Matthew Fisher caught behind by keeper Ben Cox without troubling the scorers.
Pennington came into the attack and a superb delivery clipped the top of off stump to dismiss Jack Brooks (9).
It was all over when Josh Poysden (1) edged Pennington – and Worcestershire century-maker Daryl Mitchell held onto another sharp chance at second slip.
Moeen ended with figures of 23-7-49-6, Pennington 8.1-3-27-2 and Wayne Parnell, on his Championship debut, 16-5-33-2.
Only Kane Williamson offered prolonged resistance in both innings to the County attack and the batsmen, led by Mitchell and Moeen, rattled up Worcestershire’s highest ever total against Yorkshire of 572-7 declared.
