Testing Opening Day For Academy Bowlers At Bromsgrove

Worcestershire Academy’s bowlers experienced a challenging opening day to the Tri-Series clash with their Northamptonshire counterparts at Bromsgrove Cricket Club.

The home side ended proceedings in the three-day encounter on 513-3 from 103 overs after being put into bat.

Alex Simpson, Ollie Westbury and Zain Ul Hassan all ended up with one wicket apiece.

Simpson made the first breakthrough with 85 on the board when bowling Northants skipper C. Thurston (54).

Fellow opener H. Adair and S. Zaib then added 211 for the second wicket before the latter on 120 was bowled by Westbury. He struck one six and 18 fours.

Adair featured in another substantial stand of 137 with A. Dhadwal before he was bowled for 181 by Ul-Hassan after hitting one six and 20 fours in his 273 ball knock.

Dhadwal remained unbeaten on 122 from 158 deliveries with three sixes and 18 other boundaries.

*Alex Hinkley was dismissed for a single as the Midlands-North went down by eight wickets to London-South in a ‘Best Of Bunbury’s’ 50 over match at Loughborough.

The Midlands-North totalled 223-8 in their 50 overs and their opponents reached their target in 36.2 overs.
