Third Five Wicket Haul In Championship For Twohig At Stourbridge

Third Five Wicket Haul In Championship For Twohig At Stourbridge

Worcestershire spinner Ben Twohig registered his third five wicket haul in Second Eleven Championship cricket on day two of the clash with Derbyshire Seconds at Stourbridge.

The former Malvern College pupil finished with 5-87 from 27 overs as Derbyshire were dismissed for 390 – a first innings lead of 167.

Twohig's first five-for came two years ago against Lancashire at Southport and yielded his career best figures of 6-73.

Then last summer he produced figures of 5-61 against Warwickshire at RGS Worcester.

Twohig had bowled well in the second of the two T20 matches against MCC Young Cricketers at Merchant Taylor's School and again slotted into a nice groove.

Worcestershire openers George Rhodes and Ollie Westbury reduced the deficit by 33 without being parted in 13 overs by the close.

Derbyshire resumed on 57-3 and had added only four runs when Pat Brown trapped opener Michael Jones lbw for 35.

Tom Wood and Matt Critchely added 77 for the fifth wicket before the latter was bowled by Twohig for 42.

It became 153-6 when Wood on 46 edged Twohig to Tom Fell at first slip and at that juncture Derbyshire were still 70 runs in arrears.

But then century-maker Harvey Hosein and Calum Brodrick figured in a stand of 157 in 44 overs.

Alex Wilkinson claimed the only wicket to fall before lunch and tea when Brodrick (76) was caught behind.

Twohig collected his fifth wicket when Tom Milnes (8) was bowled but further resistance came from Hosein and Rob Hemmings (40) who put on 63 for the ninth wicket.

Hosein finished undefeated on 105 from 185 balls with nine fours.
