Tom Fell hit an unbeaten 75 and then admitted the first hour tomorrow will be crucial for Worcestershire in the LV = County Championship match with Middlesex at Uxbridge.
Fell helped Worcestershire to close the second day on 195-3 in reply to Middlesex's 309 all out.
He hit 12 fours in his 127 ball knock and has shared in stands of 60 with Moeen Ali and an unbroken 83 with Alex Gidman.
With the second new ball due in nine overs time, Fell knows the importance of events on the third morning.
Fell, who has now passed 50 on three occasions this summer in the Championship, said: “There is a little bit in the pitch for the bowlers and it’s a bit two-paced.
"But it it was good to bat with both Moeen and with Alex for a while and to get us into a decent position.
“Once you do get in it’s quite nice to bat on and the first hour tomorrow will be a crucial time for us in this game.”
Fell admits it has been a learning curve for the county in Division One.
He said: "It has been pretty tough going. In most of the games, we have competed and it has usually been a bad session or a bad hour which has really done us.
"But it is all part of the learning experience.
"A lot of the guys here are in their first season in Division One so we knew it was going to be tough and it would be nice to build on what we did today and try and get some points."
Fell passed 1,500 first class runs in his career when reaching 32.
