Worcestershire CCC players past and present have taken to social media to pay tribute to first team scorer Dawn Pugh who has sadly passed away after a long battle against cancer.
Various county clubs and organisations have also sent messages in praise of Dawn who had been first team scorer since 2012 after a decade in the role with the Seconds.
New Road opener Daryl Mitchell wrote: “Big loss for all of the lads, wonderful woman, she will be greatly missed.”
Fellow opener Brett D’Oliveira said: “Will be a huge miss to all at Worcs CCC. Lovely lady who always had time for you. The place won’t be the same, Thinking of you Dawn.”
All-rounder Ross Whiteley wrote: “I will miss forever your smile and warming hugs. What a truly great woman you were. Taught us all never to give up. RIP Dawn.”
Ex County paceman Allan Richardson said: “Absolutely gutted to hear this news. Dawn was such a lovely kind woman and in my time there a Worcs CCC legend. Thoughts with all her family.”
Former Worcestershire bowler Richard Jones wrote: “Very sad news. Lovely lady. Will always remember when her horse came in at 100-1 at Worcester and she was smiling for about a week.”
There were also messages from other players, the Professional Cricketers’ Association and various counties including Essex, Surrey and Kent who wrote: “Condolences from all of us at Kent. A real trail-blazer.”
Dawn was the only full-time female scorer on the first team circuit when she took up the role and in 2013 she scored for Australia in the Ashes Test at Lord’s.
