The Worcestershire CCC Collection of Memorabilia in the Graeme Hick Pavilion is looking in pristine condition for the new season – thanks to the sterling efforts of a group of volunteers.
Half a dozen staunch County supporters – including the club’s Heritage Co-Ordinator Tim Jones – gave a spring clean to the impressive display of cabinets and bat displays which greet supporters when entering through the main Pavilion entrance.
Tim was joined by Worcestershire Supporters’ Association chairman Andrew Jenkins, Sue and Martin Jackson – the daughter and son in law of County legend Don Kenyon – Ann Turvey and Noel Baker in carrying out the work.
Martin and Sue took great delight in cleaning the Kenyon cabinet and it brought back many happy memories of Worcestershire;s record first class run scorer with a tally of 37,002.
Tim Jones said: “It was a fantastic effort by all of the volunteers and my thanks to all of them for stepping forward and giving up their time to ensure the entrance to the pavilion looks as good as ever.
“Without their help, the work couldn’t haven’t been done and it’s an approach I’ll continue with, to seek volunteers for this and other heritage related projects.”
Tim is always updating the cabinet displays and additions for this summer include early membership and fixture cards provided courtesy of the Foley family whose name is now honoured via the Foley’s coffee house and eatery.
*There are still some spaces available for the annual Heritage Sports Quiz which is being held on Sunday, July 22 at the King Charles pub in New Street, Worcester.
The quiz masters are Worcestershire CCC members Paul and Sharon Lockley who have again agreed to host this year’s quiz following the success of the 2017 inaugural event.
The entry fee of £20 for a team of four will include a meal and drink in the price.
Last year’s quiz raised £500 for heritage purposes.
