We’ve Done It! Worcs Are Back In Division One

We’ve done it! Super Worcestershire are back in Division One of the Specsavers County Championship.

The County have clinched their fifth promotion in 11 years under Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes in the first season as captain for Joe Leach.

Worcestershire’s return to the top flight was guaranteed on day three of the home clash with Durham at New Road.

For Rhodes, Leach and the county’s coaches and players, it meant all the hard work for this campaign, which began at Malvern College in November, had paid off.

Now Worcestershire will be hoping to put the icing on the cake by attempting to go up as Division Two Champions ahead of promotion rivals Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire.

Promotion has been secured through so far chalking up eight victories – four at New Road and four on opponents grounds.

Worcestershire’s home scalps were against Northamptonshire, Kent, Gloucestershire and Leicestershire.

Away wins were chalked up against Glamorgan, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.

It has been a superb team which has enabled Worcestershire to cross the promotion finishing line.

But there have also been superb individual performances and, as things stand, Worcestershire have the second highest Division Two run-scorer in Daryl Mitchell and the leading Division Two wicket-taker in Leach.
