Whiteley And Rapids Gunning For Home Quarter-Final

Ross Whiteley insists Worcestershire Rapids are not satisfied with having already qualified for the knockout stages in the Vitality Blast and said: “We want that home quarter-final.”

The all-rounder and his Rapids team-mates made sure of a place in the last eight with two games to spare.

But they need some tangible reward – one or two points – from tomorrow evening’s clash with local rivals Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston to make sure of a top two position.

Whiteley said: “Now it is the business end of the T20. We are set really well but we need those extra couple of points.

“It’s not just about having qualified for us now. We want that home quarter-final which gives us that massive advantage.”

Whiteley has been part of a formidable performance in white ball cricket this summer by the Rapids who have carried their One-Day Cup form into the Blast.

At various times they have had an awesome group of power hitters in T20 via the likes of Martin Guptill, Travis Head, Callum Ferguson, Joe Clarke and Whiteley himself.

He said: “We’ve found a good combination with the players we’ve had available and our balance of the team hasn’t been affected too much.

“It has shown with some of the games we’ve played how destructive we can be as a team and we bat down all the way to number 10 the majority of the time.

“I feel as if we’ve got every base covered.”
