Whiteley Hits Five Sixes And Finishes Fourth In Lions Batting Averages

Ross Whiteley finished fourth in the England Lions batting averages for their T20 series against Pakistan 'A' in Dubai.

The Worcestershire all-rounder faced just 53 deliveries in mainly late order roles in the best of five match series which England won 3-2 in thrilling fashion via a Super Over in the deciding game on Wednesday.

But Whiteley was still able to hit five sixes in his 62 run tally – a reminder of the 29 sixes he struck last summer for the Rapids in the NatWest T20 Blast.

The former Derbyshire player ended with an average of 20.66 and a strike rate of 116.98

The majority of the strike was enjoyed by Dawid Malan who scored three half centuries in amassing 253 runs off 192 balls and Sam Billings with two fifties in making 171 off 128 deliveries.

Whiteley's Worcestershire team-mate Joe Clarke scored 16 off 13 balls in the opening game after earning a spot in the side.

But the 19-year-old was then ruled out of the next four games with a quad injury suffered in training.

Whiteley and Clarke will hope to be part of the Lions squad announced next week for five 50 over matches against Pakistan 'A' in the UAE in January.
