Ross Whiteley made useful contributions with bat and ball for Prospect CC as 18 wickets fell on the opening day of the South Australian Cricket Association 'A' grade clash with home side West Torrens.
The Worcestershire all-rounder was one of only three players in his team to score 20 or more as Prospect were dismissed for 126.
Whiteley then claimed a crucial wicket as West Torrens also struggled and reached 123-8 by the close.
Prospect opted to bat after winning the toss and Whiteley opened the innings.
He made a patient 22 off 65 balls with three boundaries as Prospect were bowled out in 51.5 overs.
West Torrens looked to be in a strong position in reply as they reached 69-1.
But then Whiteley, who came on as second change bowler, dismissed opener K. Smith who top-scored with 45.
He held onto a return catch to end Smith's innings and from that point wickets fell at regular intervals.
It means the battle for first innings points will be very much alive when the two teams resume next weekend with Prospect requiring two wickets and West Torrens four more runs.
