WOMEN’S RAPIDS CELEBRATING OPENING VICTORY IN ECB CHAMPIONSHIP

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids are celebrating their first victory in Division Two of the ECB County Championship after defeating Cricket Wales by eight wickets in a rain-shortened match at Pontarddulais CC.

Play did not get underway until 3.15pm and was reduced to 30 overs to side but the Rapids bowlers soon got to work with the ball after putting the home side into bat.

Emily Arlott (4-0-16-1) made the first breakthrough without a run on the board and then Sarah Glenn and Jessica Humby were too hot to handle with the ball.

Glenn finished with 5.2-2-17-4 and Humby 6-2-21-3 as Wales were dismissed for 79 in just 23.4 overs.

Collette Wade also bowled a tight spell of 4-1-8-1.

The Rapids lost an early wicket but captain Georgie Adcock (30 off 47 balls with four boundaries) and Clare Boycott added 33 for the second wicket.

Boycott, who made a solid unbeaten 20, was then joined by Glenn (15 not out) to take the Rapids to victory with an unbroken partnership of 39.

Victory was secured with four overs to spare.

The Rapids are back in action tomorrow in another Championship fixture against Somerset at Kidderminster’s Chester Road ground.
